Product Description

Arc Tungsten Carbide Hexagon Tip
The arc tungsten carbide hexagon tip is a high-precision machine tool accessory manufactured from high-performance tungsten carbide (WC) material. It combines an arc-shaped tip structure with a hexagonal shank design and is primarily used for workpiece clamping and positioning in lathes, grinding machines, milling machines, and CNC machining centers. This product is widely applied in the machining of shaft-type and rotary components across industries such as general mechanical manufacturing, automotive parts processing, and aerospace, serving as a critical component for accurate centering and stable rotation.
Material System and Manufacturing Process
The arc tungsten carbide hexagon tip is produced using high-purity tungsten carbide powder as the primary raw material, with metallic binders such as cobalt (Co) added, through a powder metallurgy process. Typical cobalt content ranges from 10% to 20%, with a density of 13.85-14.5 g/cm³, hardness reaching HRA 86-92, transverse rupture strength of 2200-4500 MPa, elastic modulus of 490-540 GPa, and a coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 4.9-5.4×10⁻⁶/°C.
The tip can be manufactured as either a solid integral tungsten carbide structure or by embedding a tungsten carbide insert, with the integral design offering advantages in consistent performance. The manufacturing process includes mixing, pressing, sintering, and precision grinding, with geometric tolerance accuracy reaching ±0.002 mm.
Structural Design and Core Performance
Arc-shaped Tip
The arc-shaped tip design (e.g., SR3.6 specification) provides surface contact rather than point contact with the workpiece center hole. This effectively distributes contact stress, reduces localized wear, lowers friction resistance between the workpiece and the tip, and improves rotational stability. The tungsten carbide material endows the tip with extremely high hardness and wear resistance, delivering a service life far superior to that of hardened steel tips, while effectively resisting wear and maintaining centering accuracy over extended use.
Hexagonal Shank
The hexagonal shank structure provides greater torque transmission capability during installation and locking, facilitating operation with standard wrenches and ensuring reliable connection between the tip and the machine spindle or tailstock taper bore, preventing loosening or displacement during machining.
Excellent Comprehensive Performance
The tip features high hardness (far exceeding that of hardened steel), outstanding abrasive wear resistance, good bending and compressive strength, and a certain degree of corrosion resistance to withstand chemical attack from cutting fluids and coolants. Its good rigidity and stability effectively reduce vibration during high-speed rotation and heavy-duty cutting operations, ensuring smooth machining. Roundness can reach ≤0.002 mm, runout is controlled within ≤0.006 mm, and surface finish at the R0.3 arc can achieve Ra ≤0.4, meeting precision machining requirements.
Application Scenarios and Specifications
The arc tungsten carbide hexagon tip is suitable for applications requiring high centering accuracy and wear resistance, such as precision shaft turning, slender workpiece machining, batch hole processing, and progressive die assembly operations. Common specifications are provided in the table below:
Specification Item Typical Parameter / Range
Tip Arc Radius (SR) 3.6 mm (customizable per drawing)
Shank Shape Hexagon
Overall Outside Diameter Customizable (e.g., Φ6.5, etc.)
Tip Angle 60° (standard), 75°, 90° (customizable)
Roundness ≤0.002 mm
Runout (TIR) ≤0.006 mm
Surface Finish (Ra) ≤0.4
Hardness Range HRA 86-92
Cobalt Content 6%-20%
Selection and Customization
The arc tungsten carbide hexagon tip supports non-standard dimensions and shapes per customer drawings. When selecting a tip, comprehensive consideration should be given to workpiece material, machining accuracy requirements, cutting load magnitude, operating speed, and coolant environment.
