Tungsten carbide (WC) is an ultra-hard ceramic material composed of tungsten and carbon, renowned for its exceptional hardness, wear resistance, and chemical stability. Its chemical formula is WC, with a hexagonal crystal structure and a high density of 15.6–15.8 g/cm³—nearly twice that of steel. It has an extremely high melting point of 2,870°C, ensuring excellent thermal stability. In terms of hardness, tungsten carbide has a Mohs hardness of 8.5–9, approaching that of diamond, and a Vickers hardness of 1,700–2,400 HV, far exceeding high-speed steel. Additionally, its thermal conductivity is 110 W/(m·K), providing outstanding heat dissipation, and it exhibits strong chemical inertness, resisting most acids and alkalis—though it is susceptible to hydrofluoric-nitric acid mixtures.
